Marathon Expansion
Marathon’s boiler, completed and ready for
shipment to Garyville, LA
Fischer Equipment, Ltd. assisted Babcock & Wilcox (B&W) in the sale of a large industrial steam boiler to Marathon Petroleum Company, LLC. The Marathon expansion, one of the largest projects of it’s kind, was extremely important for our company to participate in. Due to the boiler’s size the boiler had to be transported to the job site via barge.
The expansion required a large packaged watertube boiler to provide steam in the overall refining processes. Marathon chose Babcock & Wilcox (B&W) to supply the boiler for the project based on B&W’s long history of providing quality boilers to industrial users.
Boiler Design:
- 250,000 Pounds Per Hour
- 725° F Steam Temperature
- 800 PSI Design Pressure
- Combustion Fuel: Natural Gas & #2 Oil
Marathon’s estimated $3.2 billion Garyville, Louisiana refinery expansion project will increase the crude oil refining capacity by 180,000 barrels per day. The expansion will provide an additional 7.5 million gallons of clean transportation fuels to the market each day. Startup of the refinery is expected for the fourth quarter of 2009.
